Preface of the editor Over the period of 38 years eight editions of the reference book Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Labor und Diagnose) were published. In this period the tenfold increase of the content is a living proof for the significance and progress of laboratory medicine in clinical diagnostics. The spread of this reference book in medicine and the translation in several languages are a sign for the recognition and the high acceptance which the opus is granted. Now the first electronic edition in English and German language is released in 2016. Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Labor und Diagnose) was drafted by physicians for laboratory medicine, clinical chemists, microbiologists, physicians for blood banking and by clinicians who are active in special subjects of laboratory medicine. The integrated knowledge of such a combination of authors is intended to provide the reader with optimal information on a disease orientated laboratory diagnostics and creates a connection between the practical clinical experience of the physician and the laboratory. Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Labor und Diagnose) is a reference source for the indication of clinical laboratory tests, the assessment of results and medical decision-making. A lot of laboratory diagnostic tests are available, their number is increasing steadily and the physician and the laboratory have to extend their knowledge status consistently. To provide the knowledge in an easy usage and functional for the reader, a mobile application of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Labor und Diagnose) was created. It teaches the user the medical information directly and in a short time dependent on the issue. New findings were entered continually and will be continued by the editor so the user of the application has always the latest clinical-diagnostic and scientific knowledge status. Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics identified the special value for the medical and laboratory diagnostic practice at the previous editions of the book Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics (Labor und Diagnose) .
