ABOUT Midwives
The State of the World's Midwifery 2011 was published in June 2011 and launched at the Triennial Congress of the International Confederation of Midwives in Durban, South Africa. It provides an overview of midwifery in 58 countries that collectively account for more than 90% of the global burden of maternal mortality. Key information on population, health and midwifery are collated in the report, with printed versions available in English, French and Spanish. www.stateoftheworldsmidwifery.org
This mobile phone application is an adaptation of the report's data from the 58 countries, developed by David Piesse in a data mashup event supported by UNFPA and ICS Integrare . It is the first ever application to take data from a UN report and make it available through smart phone technology. This update results from continuing collaboration to disseminate the report and inform evidence-based decision-making.
We hope you enjoy the opportunity to have this data on your mobile phone. Please do share with other interested colleagues and friends. The evidence is here. Action is now required - the "bold steps" as Ban Ki-moon writes in the report - to improve midwifery in these 58 countries and improve the lives of women and their babies.
