ABOUT Text Drop

Text Drop holds a number of lines of text that can be dragged to any area that can have text dropped on it. This includes most edit fields on web pages. This is handy to use for things like names, addresses, and phone numbers that are used repeatedly. In fact, Text Drop was written to make submitting programs to various web archives easier. Some edit areas do not accept dropping; for these you can still cut and paste. In Text Drop items can be copied by simply double-clicking on the item (in normal mode, see Edit Mode below), then on the target you can right-click and select Paste from the menu. You can also use the standard keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste. There are keyboard shortcuts for most menu items in Text Drop which are visible on the menus. Edit Mode To make changes to a Text Drop file you must be in Edit Mode. This mode can be turned on and off from the View menu. When in Edit Mode the title bar shows "Editing " and an additional Edit menu is visible. To add a new item double-click on an empty (white) portion of the window and type in the text you wish. You can also press the Insert key to get the same effect. Another way to add an item is to drag some text from another program (word processor, web browser, etc.) and drop it on the Text Drop window. To edit an existing item you can double-click it, press F2, or select Edit Item from the Edit menu. Pressing the Delete key or selecting Delete from the Edit menu will remove the item from the list. You can also drag the items into the order you find convenient. Text Drop files have the extension ".txd" and are simple text files, so you can edit or create them in any text editor. Each item is a separate line in the file. If you use a word processor make sure you save the file in *.txt format (but with extension .txd) or you will get strange results.
