The pastel medium has been around for several centuries, with roots as old as mankind. An ever-increasing number of artists have since discovered the rich colors and expressiveness of pastel painting. This app will let you create beautiful digital works of art, especially if you're a talented artist. If you're not, iPastels will keep you entertained until you become one through practice and experience! Simulating soft (chalk) pastels, oil pastels and color blending, the iPastels app aspires to be as realistic as possible. Actual pastelists can use iPastels to try out ideas and compositions before starting on a new painting in real life. Beginners will be able to practise and refine their skills, without the added cost of pastel sticks and specialty papers. One of the most widely used techniques in pastel is to use your finger to blend the colors into each other right on the paper, as part of the painting process. Using iPastels, paint with different colors and then use Smudge (the finger) or the Cotton Swab to blend and smoothen the colors. This produces amazing results! Full Screen Painting: Use a 3-finger tap or shake the device to toggle full screen mode on/off. (You can also flick the toolbar over to the opposite side.) Zooming And Panning: Pinch to zoom in/out. Drag with two fingers to pan. A 2-finger tap will then reset the zoom/pan. Layers: The image consists of 2 (3 if you upgrade to Pro) transparent layers on top of each other. To switch between the different layers, use the button that has what looks like a stack of papers in addition to a small symbol (e.g. a flower) of the currently selected layer. Color Sets: Tap once on a color to select it. Tap a second time to bring up a menu where you can change or adjust the color in a number of ways (this menu also features an Eyedropper tool if you upgrade to Pro). Adjacent to the colors you will find buttons to switch between the different color sets. Press a second time if you want to replace the color set with one of the default ones. Popup Help: For information on what a specific button does, just press it and hold down for a couple of seconds and a short explanation will appear. Performance Tips: This app uses advanced technologies and performs some very complex calculations under the hood. That's what creates the awesomeness! However, on certain devices, it might lead to some lagging and slow performance at times. If that happens, select a smaller tool tip size and paint slowly.
