The Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease at Johns Hopkins Hospital has developed this app to provide immediate and automated calculation of LDL cholesterol by the novel method published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Rather than dividing triglycerides by a fixed factor of 5, this method matches each person with 1 of 180 different factors, to give a more personalized LDL cholesterol level. The inputs are the three direct measures from the standard lipid profile: total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. The results and recommendations provided by this application are intended to inform but do not replace clinical judgment. Therapeutic options should be individualized and determined after discussion between the patient and their care provider. Developed through the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease by Ted W. James, MD. This LDL-C calculator is for research or educational use only. For-profit companies or anyone intending to redisplay or incorporate the LDL-C calculator must secure a license from the Johns Hopkins University.
