The large number of digital pictures which many computers now store with their camera-generated file names makes it difficult to locate pictures and to identify their contents. PixName was designed to overcome this inconvenience: it allows to automatically organize picture folders chronologically and to rename picture file names with the least typing effort, using easy to apply mechanisms. With renamed pictures, a search function allows to locate pictures by keywords in the file names. PixName creates virtual folders correponding to the search criteria over the full range of pictures or over a reduced range. Scanned pictures can also be handled, with the possibility to inject a date (in the standard digital pictures format) into the digitized picture file so that folder chronology can be maintained. PixName incorporates a slide show which displays picture dates and names outside the pictures themselves, with manual or automatic control of the show. Special effects are not used. Pixname can produce reduced-size pictures for email, and in some configurations can automatically invoke the email program. Version 4 introduces the capacity to manage different users in the same tree structure, to display pictures stored (through PixName) on a remote computer and to download pictures outside of the automatic structure if needed without losing the benefits of automatic folder management.
