This birding application is for the Western Palearctic (WP) region including UK, Europe, North Africa, Scandinavia and the Middle East. It is an upgrade to the (demo) UK Birding Checklist and if you load this you should uninstall the UK demo application. The lifelist and todaylist logs from the UK demo version are compatible with the WP version (but the reverse is not true for the Lifelist). It is optimized for logging bird sightings rather than a field guide for identification purposes. You can use this application to: - maintain your Lifelist of birds in the WP region - log your bird sightings - upload your sightings to eBird It lists all resident and accidental birds in the WP region (931 species and 1186 sub-species). You can log your sightings to a file in a format compatible with the eBird import facility. Features: - lists all birds recorded in the Western Palearctic - filter the listing by region (WP, UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Balkans, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Iceland, North Africa, Cape Verde, Azores, Madeira, Canaries) - filter the list by status (Accidental, Rare, Resident, Introduced) - search by name (common name, latin name) - maintain your personal Lifelist (all species seen), and a current tick list (ie for birds seen today or on a field trip). Now also includes checklist ticks for each of the 12 sub-regions of the WP. - updates to bird listing will not destroy your Lifelist or sighting logs (these are stored on the SD card) - store large numbers of photo and sound files on the SD card linked to the application - now also includes Rangemaps and extended bird descriptions. You can write your own bird description or notes text files and load these from the SD card. - logging facilities including GPS location (if your phone has a GPS) and optional fields and tickboxes for observations. - GPS location plotting on Google satellite map. - export log file in eBird Import format for rapid loading of your sightings to eBird. - plenty of help screens. The downloaded application DOES NOT include any photos or bird calls, but the application includes details (see the About dialog) of a web link where you download a reasonable sample set (you need to be able to copy the files down from a web site, unzip, and copy the contents to the SD card or internal memory of your phone). You can create and add your own, these are all stored on the SD card. First-time loading will take 5 - 10 minutes to load the database and scan the photo and sound directories. After that it will run faster than the UK demo version. Feel free to email me with comments, corrections and suggestions (email in About window of application). >> I am investigating the ability to zoom in to photos.
