The goals of the Linux-NTFS project development are to ensure full feature access to NTFS by the Linux kernel driver and by a user space driver (ntfsmount), and to provide a wide collection of NTFS utilities for other GPL programs. NTFS volumes can be accessed and modified in multiple ways. One of them is the Linux kernel driver - fast and reliable when reading files but with very limited write support. Almost all the Linux versions already include the kernel driver. Another way is the ntfsmount: a user-space driver compared with the kernel driver in reliability, but including full write support since version 2 and so on.
